RE: Land Between the Lakes

In all fairness, I haven't seen two of the above, but I'd vote Piney every time for the elbow room, the trees, and the water.

RE: Here at the KOA in Nashville

Hmmm, which would be worse? $63. for KOA site? Or $63. for a hotel room?

RE: Rafter J Bar Question

Again, there really is a mulitude of different kinds of sites. I wish we could've stayed on "the island", but were very happy with our site in Upper Ranch. We had loads of room privacy, and trees! We'll stay at Upper Ranch (or Lower) next time as well.
There really is something for everyone.

Yes, Grizzly has a laundry; more than one if I remember correctly.

RE: towing a htt

"Someone" told you towing with an htt is awful? You mean "someone with a fifth-wheel" told you towing with an htt was awful. :-)
Not sure if this someone has ever towed an htt before, but given that one has the proper towing, wd, and anti-sway, I don't understand how it could be construed as "awful". In my 20+ years of camping, I've never seen a jackknifed htt. I'm sure it happens with people who don't know what they're doing, but I've never witnessed it. Must agree with the above who say educate yourself. Don't go by hearsay, including ours. Do the math for yourself. Tell the seller you need to "test-tow" it yourself.

RE: HTT parking lights on...

Running lights never bothered us, but we don't run ours either. I hate the guy with the spotlights left on all night long. Peronally, I like seeing everyone's funky awning lights, etc. I like to walk the loops at night, too. We usually stay in state parks, where you've got a little privacy as well.

RE: New Hybrid Owner-So excited!!!

Another congrats added to the mix! I can "hear" the excitement in your post and still feel the same way everytime we head out.
My favorite moment on our first trip was having to get up and use the bathroom in the rain in the middle of the night! A few barefooted footsteps...I was positively giddy. :-)

RE: tent end problems?

No leaks or issues so far in our 06 Jayco 23B. We're keeping our eye out, but so far, so good.
As owners of an HTT, we typically like to camp in places like we did when we were tent-campers: state parks, COE parks, etc. where we aren't parked side by side with others. The only time noise was an issue for us was the dawn patrol: crows!! Turning on the AC fan as white noise solved that problem.

RE: where to stay in Memphis for 1 night??

Wow, fourfuz! You obviously don't work for the Tourist Center. LOL (Roving packs of wild pitbulls???)
For those considering visiting the city, Tom Sawyer and the place in Southaven are nicely kept and both are close to downtown and Beale. Graceland area is also not far from Beale/Downtown, but have never stayed in that RV park so can't comment on it. As said before by above posters, downtown area is fine. Parking garages/lots are all patrolled. Just use common sense as you would in any large city. Beale is a tourist area; just as 2nd/Broad is in Nashville, LaClede's Landing in St. Louis, etc. etc.

RE: Looking to buy my first hybrid and need some advice

Ours is just under 4000 empty. You can easily tow any popup, but depending on what you need for space, check into one of the smaller hybrids, 19 feet?
I don't know how much less they'd weigh, but I'm sure one of the lovely people on this board will know. :-)
Don't give up on the htts yet!

RE: Looking to buy my first hybrid and need some advice

Travis, we used to have the same Durango when we bought our current HTT (Jayco 23B). It fit within the limits numerically and we made several trips with it...until we hit the mountains. We knew then that to tow safely we needed a bigger TV. Legally and numerically, we were fine, but we just didn't feel safe towing with that setup. We ended up getting an 07 Durango with the Hemi; gas mileage was just as good (or bad depending on pov), but towing capability was night and day.
When you decide to make your purchase, ask the dealer if you can hitch up and give it a run. The dealers will tell you that you can pull a 5W with a Pinto. YOu're smart to do your own research. Good luck! And happy camping.

RE: queen bed cushions on dinette in 23B

Once we got some memory foam, it solved that problem. When we turtle I sleep there and with the foam, it is perfectly comfortable.

RE: Easy Meal for Large Group

Do you have a Dutch oven? Our cooking habits changed for the better once we bought one of those. Basically, you use it like an outdoor crockpot. Dump in what you're cooking, set in on the charcoal, and walk away. Very limited effort, time, and little clean up. Makes a ton; our favorites are tamale pie, ham butt, and southwest chicken.
Also, you can find some great info on the Camp Cooks board, they were a big help when we went on a long trip for make ahead and freeze ideas.

RE: New Hybrid Owner

Another congrats! Welcome to the wierd, small, and wonderful world of hybrids. We've had our current HTT for over two years and still adore it!
Gotta second the recommendation to film your walk thru. We had our son video it and I took notes. We felt a bit silly, but it turned out to be invaluable. In any case, welcome. And let us know how the first trip out goes.

RE: Outdoor Shower Fix or Replace?

Yeah, we screwed up our first winter and forgot to winterize. The lines were fine but it burst the cheapo fixture. Dealer actually replaced for free (even though it was our fault). Been looking for a better set up ever since.
